So lately I've been shooting some sporting events for the Cactus Yearbook at UT, which is great because I can just take on any assignments whenever I like that fit my schedule. Here's some I've done in the past 2 weeks...

Back in Austin
I'm back in Austin and already a few weeks into school....been pretty busy. Haven't been able to do any portraits for anyone yet here, but don't know if I'll ever have the time to. I am shooting for the Cactus Yearbook again, but I don't know if I can post any of those images on here without UT's permission. I'll find out though. I just shot a women's volleyball game (UT vs. Georgia), which I thought came out pretty well.
I visited the Pees again last weekend! Lots of fun! Running out of time because I need sleep, but here's a cute picture of Claire to leave you with.

Francis-Hurt Wedding
My first wedding! It's a whole lot different from portraits, because I don't have any of the control over shots as I normally do. It's all about preparation and anticipation, catching that "window of opportunity."
Congratulations to the happy couple!!!

Session: There are certain rules that one must abide by in order to create a successful sequel
My next photo session was at Hermann Park again Saturday morning. I had my trusty assistant Crystal with me again helping me out with lighting/setup. As soon as I showed up at the park that morning though, I worried about creating a variety of shots that weren't just imitations of my last photoshoot. We were shooting at the exact same locations as my last customers, so I wanted to avoid taking the same pictures as last time but with different people.
GQ Style
I try to come up with as many different shots as I can, but I think the key is just hanging out with the subjects, getting to know their personalities, and figuring out how to incorporate it into the photographs. It's also great when families like this one can give their input on photo ideas, most of which I would've never thought of.
Brotherly Love
Some of the best shots come 10 seconds before the "actual" shot (see picture below). I'm a big fan of natural/candid photography and personally find it WAY more interesting than those 15 minute studio portraits. They have AC but I have better pictures :P.

Session: Summer Lovin'
Sillohuette
I owe the idea of the framing of this shot to the nice asian tourists who asked me to take a photo for them a few minutes before.
Yesterday was my first photo shoot done without an assistant, and the lucky guinea pigs were the happy couple John and Jill. But I'm happy to say the photos turned out terrific. Here's a small preview for the two of you as I organize all the photos...
Piggybacking in Hermann Park!
We had the shoot at Hermann Park, which I probably haven't been to since the field trip days of elementary school. After going around the roundabout a few times, I parked by the Museum of Natural Sciences and toured the area an hour before the shoot. Hermann Park is HUGE! A great place for photos (I already scheduled another one there) and as I was waiting, I saw at least 3 different brides do their bridal shots there.

Match Point
So I haven't really done any sports yet (officially), but Vinay and his sister let me practice tennis on them. The lighting was a little off, and so was a bunch of the framing but I think I did a decent job. All these I could fix in photoshop :P, but the ones shown here are all untouched. It wasn't a real match, so I got to move around and experiment from different angles.
For the record, I think Vinay won the "tie-breaker" (even though his sister was killing him the entire match)
Session: Big Fish
Here's a small preview for the parents...
Later that Sunday, we met with another family for another photoshoot. The backyard had a cute pier that was a nice spot to catch small fish, but the one that big "J" and little "J" caught was HUGE! At least in my standards anyway...
This chair sure is comfy!
Little "E" was a fun-loving girl who was curious to see how high she could build her towers before they fell! Also a very generous person, "E" willingly emptied her buckets of cat food in the water for the fishies.
There were 3 generations worth of family there, which was more people than I was used to. But they were very welcoming, making the photo session go as smooth as it could've gone. Enjoy the photos!

Session: Tinkerbell Sisters
On Sunday morning, Crystal and I met 3 lovely young ladies who dressed up in their Halloween Tinkerbell costumes for us! But after playing hard in the living room and waving their magic wands around, they decided to change into their summer dresses to get a little more comfortable.
The big sister pondering deep thoughts in her Tinkerbell outfit.
The house was great with its huge, tall windows and hardwood floors. The soft window light was perfect for the indoor portraits.
Look at me! I can reach the doorknob!Afterwards, we went outside for a tea party and a few family portraits in the backyard/golf course. There was also a pond there too, where they were able to catch some tadpoles! But after a few more photos, we had to let the golfers finish their round. We ended the photo session at a nearby park, where I got some of the best pictures of the day.

Session: I'm bakin' like a toasted cheese-it! It's so hot here!
The Houston humidity.
There's nothing else like it! I'm very grateful that the family I photographed were very good sports about the weather, always keeping the smiles up and inputing their ideas.
Sesquicentennial park was a great area in downtown Houston, that provided us a nice variety of shots. Hills...waterfalls...open grass...what more could you ask for?

Session: Sleeping Beauty
My first session went very smooth, and I'm very pleased with the result. 3 year old boy "N" and 2 month year old girl "S" had their portraits taken by me along with their mother at their lovely home. Then, we all drove to a local park where we finished up the session by playing on the swings and feeding the ducks!
